Just two weeks ago, a Lexus LFA prototype was running a lap on the famed German circuit, Nurburgring, when it collided head-on with a BMW sedan. Despite protective measures, legendary Lexus test driver, Hiromu Naruse, was killed. The LFA careened into oncoming traffic, and crashed head-on into a BMW 3 series. What lead to the head on collision in the first place is unclear so far. Both cars were being tested on performance benchmarks on that day. The BMW driver and passenger were severely injured, but survived the crash.
This shot from a spy video reveals how serious the accident was. This accident was first reported in German newspaper, Rhein-Zeitung. Rhein also has a video clip of the aftermath of the accident.
Hiromu Naruse was born in 1944, and died on June 23, 2010, in the collision. He was 66 years old, having served 47 of those years as a test driver for the Toyota team (as chief test engineer). He was also the chief test driver of the Lexus LFA, and the chief of the Gazoo Racing team.
